NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Ryan Flaherty scored on pitcher Ben Wilshire's error in the bottom of the 11th inning to give top-ranked Vanderbilt a 2-1 victory over Austin Peay in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
With runners at second and third, Shea Robin tapped a grounder to Wilshire, who mishandled the ball. Flaherty, who had singled, scored from third base.
Vanderbilt (52-11) will face Michigan on Saturday, while Austin Peay will play Memphis in an elimination game.
Vanderbilt's David Price and Austin Peay's Shawn Kelley engaged in a pitcher's duel most of the night. Price shut out the Governors until the top of the ninth, when Tyler Farrar's home run tied it at 1 and forced extra innings.
Price struck out 17, matching his career high. Casey Weathers (12-2) earned the victory in relief, striking out five in two innings.
Kelley pitched 10 innings, surrendering five hits and striking out nine. His wild pitch in the sixth allowed Brad French to score from third base.
David Vicini (2-2) took the loss.
